Effingham County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a Wednesday night shooting that left one man dead.

According to the ECSO, deputies responded to a Shirley Drive home on a call of a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found Joshua Sorg, 38, with a gunshot wound to the head. Sorg was taken to Effingham Hospital and later pronounced dead.

The investigation revealed that an altercation took place between Sorg and the homeowner. The incident escalated when Sorg refused to leave the property and hand guns became involved.

No charges have been filed yet.
