Georgia Southern opens its fourth season under head basketball coach Charlton "C.Y." Young against a familiar foe Friday night in Indiana. The Eagles return a number of contributors from last season, including Preseason All-SoCon selection Eric Freguson who enters his junior season with the Eagles.

Friday night's game starts at 8:30 p.m. (ET) and can be seen for free on ValpoAthletics.com. The Georgia Southern Radio Network will also cover the game locally on 103.7-FM The Boomer and worldwide at GSEagles.com.

Ferguson has 855 career points and was named SoCon Player of the Year by RushTheCourt.net last season. This year, he will be flanked by returning starters Cameron Baskerville, Marvin Baynham and Tre Bussey.

Among the Eagles’ newcomers is the 2010-11 MEAC and National HBCU Player of the Year C.J. Reed. The redshirt senior averaged 18.8 points per game as a junior at Bethune-Cookman and has 1,654 career points to his name. Also transferring into the Eagle program is Brian Holmes, who played the 2010-11 season at North Florida. GSU has three freshmen on the roster — Chris Daniels, Cole Rives and Cleon Roberts.

Valparaiso enters the 2012-13 season after falling in the Horizon League Championship Game to Detroit. The Crusaders return a number of key players from last year’s squad including Ryan Broekhoff who scored 22 points with 13 rebounds in last year’s season opener.

Next up for Georgia Southern is a trip to Charlotte on Tuesday evening. The game can be seen live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 9 p.m.
