STATESBORO -- Effingham County fought back from an 18-point, first-half deficit and closed within a point in the final minute but fell just short in a 58-55 loss to Richmond Hill in the semifinals of the Region 2-AAAAAA tournament on Tuesday night at Statesboro High School.

The Rebels (18-6) will be back in action on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the region tournament consolation game.

Tuesday, Caleb Williams led ECHS with 19 points -- six during a 12-0 run that brought the Rebels within one at 56-55 with 58.6 seconds left. ECHS had the ball with 20 seconds to go but a missed shot and long rebound led to a Wildcat layup. The Rebels turned the ball over on their final possession.
