The Effingham Chamber of Commerce has announced its plans for the 2013 Chamber annual meeting, to be held June 6 at 7 p.m. at Effingham County High School.

“We are excited about this year’s annual meeting and could not be happier to announce that Barbara Dooley, will be our guest speaker,” said Chamber President Talbert Edenfield.

Mrs. Dooley is married to Vince Dooley, former University of Georgia head football coach and athletic director.

Barbara Dooley was born and raised in Birmingham, Ala. She attended John Carroll High School and went on to Auburn University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in speech therapy and special education and a masters degree in guidance and counseling.  But some say what she really mastered in was husband-picking.

Dooley has been making people laugh for years with her Southern tales of football, family and foolishness. She has documented these stories in her book “Put Me In Coach.”

She is involved in many community projects, which includes a live morning talk show in the Athens area that was voted the talk show of the year in 1997 and 1999 and a new television show on cable called “Talk of The Town,” and is also dividing her time between her four children, her 11 grandchildren, and many community activities.

The annual Chamber dinner also serves as a special recognition evening, with awards and special honors being presented to the Treutlen Award Winner, the Small Business of the Year, and the Ambassador of the Year. This year’s Leadership Effingham class will receive their plaques and lapel pins, signifying their graduation, and plaques will be awarded to Members of Distinction, to honor their spirit of giving to the Chamber.

“This is a very popular event every year,” Edenfield said, “so I really encourage everyone to get their request for tickets in quickly so they have a good seat.”

This year’s dinner will be served by Chef Nick Mueller.
